Susanna Gregory (born 1954) is a British author best known for her historical whodunit novels set in 14th-century England. Born in West Sussex, she studied English at Oxford University and worked as a teacher and journalist before turning to writing. Gregory's debut novel, "A Murder of Quality" (1996), introduced the character of Matthew Bartholomew, a young Benedictine monk with a keen eye for solving mysteries. The novel was a critical and commercial success, launching a series that has sold over 3 million copies worldwide. Gregory has received numerous awards for her work, including the Historical Dagger from the Crime Writers' Association and the Dagger in the Library. Her books have been praised for their accurate historical detail, engaging characters, and suspenseful plots. Gregory continues to write the Matthew Bartholomew series, with the latest novel, "A Mortal Terror," published in 2023. She has also written several standalone historical novels and non-fiction works on medieval history.
