Andre Norton (1912-2005) was an American science fiction and fantasy author who penned over 300 books under various pseudonyms. Born Alice Norton, she began writing as Andre Norton to avoid gender bias in the publishing industry. Her first novel, "The Prince Commands," was published in 1934.
