Mary Stone is an American author and playwright. Born in 1941 in Clarksville, Tennessee, Stone's early life and education are not publicly known. Her literary career began with the publication of her first novel, "Crazy in Alabama," in 1990. The novel was a critical and commercial success, winning the Lillian Smith Book Award and being adapted into a major motion picture in 1999. Stone has since published several other novels, including "The Widow's Tale" (1992), "Saving Grace" (1996), and "Nobody's Fool" (2001). Her work often explores themes of family, loss, and the complexities of Southern culture. In addition to her novels, Stone has also written plays, including "Cradle of Fire" (2005) and "The Christian Brothers School" (2010).
