Vicki Delany (born 1959) is an American mystery writer known for her historical mysteries and her series featuring Supt. Johnathon Stride of the London Metropolitan Police. Born in Chicago, Delany developed a love of reading and writing at a young age. She attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she earned a degree in journalism. After graduating, she worked as a reporter for several newspapers before turning to writing fiction. Delany's first novel, "The Fine Art of Murder," was published in 1996. Set in Victorian London, it introduced Supt. Johnathon Stride, a brilliant and enigmatic detective. The novel was an immediate success, winning the Macavity Award for Best First Mystery Novel and the Agatha Award for Best Historical Novel. Delany has since written over 20 mysteries featuring Supt. Stride, as well as several standalone novels. Her work has been praised for its historical accuracy, intricate plots, and well-developed characters. She has received numerous awards, including the Anthony Award, the Derringer Award, and the Lambda Literary Award.
