Laura Lippman is an American crime fiction author known for her Baltimore-based Tess Monaghan series. Born in 1959 in Chevy Chase, Maryland, she developed a passion for writing at a young age. After graduating from Northwestern University, Lippman worked as a reporter for the Baltimore Sun. In 1997, her debut novel, "Baltimore Blues," introduced Tess Monaghan, a reporter-turned-private investigator. The series gained critical acclaim for its complex characters, sharp social commentary, and intricate plots. Lippman has also written several standalone novels, including "The Girl in the Green Glass Mirror" and "Lady Lazarus." Her work has received numerous awards, including four Edgar Awards, an Anthony Award, and a Shamus Award. Lippman has been praised for her ability to blend crime fiction with literary elements, creating both engrossing and thought-provoking stories. Her novels often explore themes of identity, class, and the realities of contemporary life.
