John Lawton (1946-present) is an award-winning British author best known for his mysteries. Born in Kingston upon Hull, he worked as a teacher and a journalist before publishing his first novel, "A Touch of Dead," in 1977. This book introduced the detective Inspector Frederick Troy and won the Gold Dagger Award from the Crime Writers' Association. Lawton has written over 20 novels featuring Troy, including "Death Mask," "Black Out," and "Blue Rondo à la Turk." He has also published several standalone titles, such as "The Sunday Runners" and "The Thirteenth Day." Lawton's novels are characterized by their atmospheric settings, complex characters, and intricate plotting. He has received numerous awards for his work, including the Mystery Writers of America's Edgar Award in 1984 for "Death Mask."
