Andrzej Sapkowski (born June 21, 1948) is a Polish fantasy writer best known for his critically acclaimed "The Witcher" series. Born in Łódź, Poland, Sapkowski began writing fantasy in the 1980s. His breakthrough came with the short story "The Witcher," published in 1986. This story introduced Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter for hire, and established the world of the Continent. The Witcher series has since grown into a global phenomenon, spawning eight novels, numerous short stories, video games, and a live-action television series.
