Hakan Nesser (born February 21, 1950) is a Swedish author and retired professor of literature. He is best known for his intricate and atmospheric crime novels, particularly the series featuring Inspector Van Veeteren. Born in Kumla, Sweden, Nesser graduated from Uppsala University with a degree in literature and history. After a brief teaching career, he began writing full-time in the 1980s. His first novel, "Koreografen" (The Choreographer), was published in 1988. Nesser's Inspector Van Veeteren series, set in the fictional Swedish town of Kymlinge, has been widely acclaimed for its psychological depth, complex characters, and sophisticated plotting. The series has been translated into over 20 languages and has sold millions of copies worldwide.
