Elizabeth Moon (born June 7, 1945) is an American science fiction and fantasy author known for her hard science fiction works and epic fantasy series. Moon was born in McAllen, Texas, and has a Ph.D. in linguistics from the University of Texas at Austin. She served as a Marine cryptologist before becoming a full-time writer in 1985. Her notable works include the "Paksenarrion" fantasy series (1988-1991), the "Vatta's War" science fiction series (2003-2022), and the standalone novels "The Speed of Dark" (2002), which won the Nebula Award for Best Novel, and "Remnant Population" (2006).
