Steve Perry (born January 22, 1949) is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer best known as the lead vocalist of the rock band Journey from 1977 to 1996. Before Journey, Perry was a member of the bands The Other Side and Alien Project. He joined Journey in 1977 and quickly became one of the most recognizable voices in rock music. With Journey, Perry recorded several hit songs, including "Don't Stop Believin'", "Wheel in the Sky", "Any Way You Want It", and "Lights". The band sold over 100 million records worldwide and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017. Perry left Journey in 1996 to focus on his solo career. He has released two solo albums, Street Talk (1994) and For the Love of Strange Medicine (2018). In addition to his work as a singer, Perry has also written or co-written several of Journey's hit songs. He has won numerous awards for his music, including a Grammy Award for Song of the Year in 1982 for "Don't Stop Believin'". Perry is considered one of the greatest rock singers of all time. His powerful vocals and emotional delivery have inspired generations of musicians.
