Elizabeth Strout (born January 18, 1956) is an American author known for her critically acclaimed and award-winning novels that explore the complexities of human relationships and the intricacies of small-town life. Born in Portland, Maine, Strout began writing at an early age. After graduating from Bates College, she worked as a waitress, bartender, and freelance writer before publishing her debut novel, "Amy and Isabelle," in 1998. Strout's breakout novel, "Olive Kitteridge" (2008), which was later adapted into an award-winning HBO miniseries, garnered widespread recognition and critical praise. She has since written several other acclaimed novels, including "The Burgess Boys" (2013), "My Name Is Lucy Barton" (2016), and "Oh William!" (2021).
