David Morrell (born April 24, 1943) is an American author best known for his psychological thrillers. Born in Kitchener, Ontario, Morrell moved to the United States in his early childhood. He studied at the University of Iowa, where he earned a master's degree in English. Morrell's debut novel, "First Blood" (1972), introduced the iconic character Rambo. The book was a critical and commercial success, spawning a series of sequels and film adaptations. Other notable works include "The Brotherhood of the Rose" (1984), "The Rules of Deception" (1994), and "Murder as a Fine Art" (2007). Morrell has received numerous awards for his writing, including the Edgar Award from the Mystery Writers of America and the CWA Gold Dagger Award from the Crime Writers' Association. His works have been translated into over 30 languages and have sold millions of copies worldwide. Morrell's novels are praised for their suspenseful plots, memorable characters, and incisive social commentary.
