Alistair MacLean (1922-1987) was a renowned Scottish author known for his thrilling adventure novels. Born in Glasgow, he served in the Royal Navy during World War II, where his experiences greatly influenced his writing. After the war, MacLean turned to writing, publishing his debut novel, "HMS Ulysses," in 1955. The novel became an instant bestseller and launched his career. He went on to write over 30 novels, including other popular titles such as "Where Eagles Dare," "Fear is the Key," and "Puppet on a Chain." MacLean's novels are characterized by their fast-paced action, gripping suspense, and vivid descriptions of war and adventure.
