Mary Daheim (1947-2022) was an American mystery writer. Born in New Jersey, she later moved to the Pacific Northwest, which became the setting for many of her books. Daheim's writing career began in the 1980s when she published her first novel, "The Alpine Adventure," featuring Bed and Breakfast owner Judith McMonigle Flynn. The popular series set in fictional Alpine, Washington, spanned over 30 books and inspired numerous made-for-television movies. Daheim also wrote the Emma Lord Mystery series, set in a seaside Oregon town, and the Misty Pines Romances. Her work earned her critical acclaim, including the Agatha Award for Best Novel in 1992 for "Alpine for You." Throughout her career, Daheim received numerous awards for her contributions to the mystery genre. Her books have been praised for their charming characters, intricate plots, and affectionate depiction of small-town life.
