Lilian Jackson Braun (1913-2011), was an American mystery writer. She was born in Chicago, Illinois, and her family moved to Michigan when she was young. After graduating from the University of Michigan, she worked as a journalist and advertising copywriter. In 1966, she published her first book in the "The Cat Who..." mystery series, featuring a Siamese cat named Koko and reporter Jim Qwilleran. The series became immensely popular, with over 30 books published. Braun's books are known for their cozy mystery style, humorous characters, and intricate plots. Braun won multiple awards for her work, including the Agatha Award for Best Novel in 1987 for "The Cat Who Could Read Backwards."
