Cecil Scott Forester (29 August 1899 – 2 April 1966) was an English novelist known for his naval fiction, most notably the Horatio Hornblower series. Born in Cairo, Forester developed a passion for writing and sailing from an early age. He served in the Royal Navy during World War I and drew on these experiences for his novels. Forester's breakthrough came with "Brown on Resolution" (1929), the first novel in the Hornblower series. He followed this with numerous other naval tales, including "Captain Horatio Hornblower" (1939) and "The Good Shepherd" (1955). Forester's works received critical acclaim for their vivid depictions of naval warfare, strong characters, and thrilling adventures. He won several awards, including the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize and the James Tait Black Memorial Prize. Forester's novels remain popular today, inspiring multiple film and television adaptations. He is considered one of the greatest naval fiction authors of all time.
