About the Author
Taylor Caldwell (1900-1985) was an American historical novelist known for her prolific output and sweeping, epic narratives. Born Janet Miriam Holland in Manchester, England, she grew up in poverty and moved to the United States as a young adult. After struggling as a writer for years, her breakout novel, "Dynasty of Death" (1938), became an instant bestseller. Caldwell went on to write over 40 novels, including "The Eagles Gather" (1940), "Dear and Glorious Physician" (1959), and "Captain Sam Grant" (1959). Her works were widely translated and sold millions of copies worldwide. Despite her popular success, Caldwell's writing often faced criticism for its melodramatic style and historical inaccuracies. However, she remained a beloved author for many readers, drawn to her evocative storytelling and powerful characters.
