About the Hunger Games series

Suzanne Collins's Hunger Games is the dystopian series that defined a generation of young-adult fiction. In the nation of Panem, the wealthy Capitol forces each district to send children to fight to the death in a televised arena. When Katniss Everdeen volunteers to save her sister, she becomes the reluctant spark of a revolution.

Beneath the page-turning survival plot, Collins is writing pointed commentary on war, propaganda, spectacle and the cost of violence — themes that have only sharpened with time. Katniss is a famously prickly, traumatised heroine, not a tidy role model, which is part of the trilogy's power.

The original trilogy ("The Hunger Games", "Catching Fire", "Mockingjay") is now joined by prequels "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" and "Sunrise on the Reaping". You can read publication order or chronological order; either way, the original three remain the heart of Panem.
