Joe Kubert (1926-2012) was an American comic book artist, writer, and editor. Born in Ukraine, he moved to the United States in 1929. He began his career in comics at the age of 12, working on such titles as Flash Comics and Hawkman. He later became the editor of DC Comics' war comics line, where he created the iconic character Sgt. Rock. Kubert's realistic and dynamic artwork earned him numerous awards, including the National Cartoonists Society's Reuben Award for Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year in 1976. He was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 1997. Kubert's notable works include "Tarzan," "Batman," and "The Phantom." He also wrote and drew educational comics for the U.S. Department of Defense and NASA. Kubert's work has been widely recognized for its technical proficiency, attention to detail, and emotional depth.
