Terry Goodkind (1948-2020) was an American author best known for his epic fantasy series The Sword of Truth. Growing up in Nebraska, Goodkind worked as a cabinet maker and a carpenter. He began writing in his 30s and published his debut novel, Wizard's First Rule, in 1994. The Sword of Truth series sold over 25 million copies worldwide and was translated into more than 20 languages. Goodkind's writing explores themes of morality, free will, and the battle between good and evil. He received the Prometheus Award for his short story "The Law of Nines" and was nominated for the Nebula Award and Hugo Award for his novel Blood of the Fold. Despite his commercial success, Goodkind's work has been met with mixed critical reception.
