Rebecca Stead is an American author known for her children's and young adult fiction. Born in New York City in 1968, she graduated from New York University and worked as an editor before turning to writing. Stead's debut novel, "When You Reach Me" (2009), won the Newbery Medal and was a finalist for the National Book Award. The novel follows sixth-grader Miranda who receives mysterious notes from the future. Her subsequent novels include "Liar & Spy" (2012), about a boy coping with his parents' divorce, and "Goodbye Stranger" (2015), which explores themes of loss and friendship. Stead's writing is praised for its sensitivity, humor, and exploration of complex emotions in young characters. She has received numerous awards, including the Margaret A. Edwards Award from the American Library Association.
