**Kate Atkinson** (b. 1951) is a critically acclaimed English novelist and short story writer. Born in York, she studied English at the University of Dundee. Atkinson's debut novel, "Behind the Scenes at the Museum" (1995), won the Whitbread Novel Award. She gained international recognition for the "Jackson Brodie" series, featuring a former police inspector turned private investigator. Notable works include "Life After Life" (2013), which won the Costa Book of the Year Award, and "Transcription" (2018), winner of the Women's Prize for Fiction. Atkinson's writing is characterized by its intricate plotting, evocative prose, and exploration of themes of time, fate, and redemption. She has been praised for her insightful character development and her ability to create compelling narratives. Her numerous awards include the Gold Dagger Award for Best Crime Novel (2005) and the Commonwealth Writers' Prize (2009). Atkinson has also been nominated for the Man Booker Prize and the BBC National Short Story Award. Her work has been translated into over 40 languages.
