Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875-1950) was an American author best known for his adventure novels. Born in Chicago, he initially worked various jobs before finding literary success in 1912 with "Tarzan of the Apes." Burroughs created numerous popular series, including the Tarzan books, featuring a feral child raised by apes in the African jungle; the Barsoom novels, set on Mars; and the Pellucidar tales, set in a world beneath the Earth's surface. His works sold millions of copies and were translated into dozens of languages. Burroughs received limited awards but achieved critical success with his vivid and imaginative storytelling. His works continue to be enjoyed by generations of readers, inspiring numerous adaptations into film, television, and other media. His legacy as a pioneer of the adventure genre and a master of pulp fiction remains significant.
