Richard "Dick" Couch (born April 16, 1928) is an American author best known for his non-fiction works on sailing and maritime history. Couch was born in Wichita, Kansas, and grew up in Oklahoma. He first sailed as a teenager and later served in the US Navy during World War II. After the war, he worked as a journalist and editor for several newspapers and magazines. In 1963, Couch published his first book, "The America's Cup Races." This was followed by a series of other books on sailing, including "Race to the Golden Gate," "The Great American Yacht Race," and "The Perfect Sail." Couch's books are known for their vivid storytelling and detailed research. Couch has received numerous awards for his work, including the Sir Francis Chichester Award from the Royal Cruising Club and the Alfred F. Loomis Award from the Sailing World magazine. His books have been translated into several languages and have sold millions of copies worldwide.
