David McKee (1935-2022) was a renowned British children's author and illustrator. Born in Devon, England, McKee studied illustration at Plymouth College of Art. His career began in advertising, but he soon transitioned to children's books. His first book, "Two Can Toucan," was published in 1964. McKee gained international fame with the popular "Elmer" series, featuring an elephant who celebrates his differences. The character became a symbol of diversity and self-acceptance.
