Bernard Cornwell (born February 23, 1944) is a British author known for his historical fiction novels, particularly his series set during the Napoleonic Wars and featuring the character Richard Sharpe. Born in London, Cornwell worked as a television journalist before turning to writing full-time. His breakthrough came with the Sharpe series, which has sold over 30 million copies worldwide. Cornwell has also written several other series, including the Saxon Stories, set in 9th-century England, and the Grail Quest, set during the Crusades. Among his numerous awards, Cornwell has received the Historical Novel Society's Walter Scott Prize for Historical Fiction and the Crime Writers' Association's Diamond Dagger Award. His work has been praised for its historical accuracy, engaging characters, and thrilling action sequences. Cornwell continues to be one of the most popular and critically acclaimed historical fiction authors today.
