The Twilight Saga Reading Order: Including Midnight Sun

Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight defined a generation of paranormal romance — and with Midnight Sun finally out, plenty of readers are returning to Forks. Here’s the complete reading order.

The main saga

  1. Twilight (2005)
  2. New Moon (2006)
  3. Eclipse (2007)
  4. Breaking Dawn (2008)

This is the core Bella-and-Edward story, and it’s read in straightforward publication order.

The companions and where they fit

  • The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner (2010) — a novella following a newborn vampire from Eclipse. Read it after Eclipse or after the main saga.
  • Midnight Sun (2020) — the big one: Twilight retold entirely from Edward’s point of view. It’s a full novel, and it recontextualises the whole romance. Most readers enjoy it most after finishing the saga, when you already know where the story goes — though you can also read it right after Twilight for the matched-pair experience.

Where to start

Twilight, of course. Whatever you think of the cultural phenomenon, it’s a fast, atmospheric, hugely readable romance — and Midnight Sun gives long-time fans a genuine reason to revisit it.
