TJ Klune Reading Order: Where to Start

TJ Klune writes some of the warmest, most heartfelt fantasy around — found families, gentle magic, and a lot of crying in the best way. Here is where to start.

The standalones to start with

  • The House in the Cerulean Sea (2020) — a caseworker visits an orphanage for magical children. The cozy fantasy entry point, and now with a sequel, Somewhere Beyond the Sea.
  • Under the Whispering Door (2021) — a standalone about a man who arrives at a tea shop that ferries the dead. Tender and funny.

The series

  • Green Creek — a four-book paranormal romance series about werewolves and small-town found family, beginning with Wolfsong.

Where to start

Start with The House in the Cerulean Sea. It is the perfect introduction to Klune’s voice: cozy, queer, hopeful, and quietly profound. If you want a slow-burn romance series instead, begin Green Creek with Wolfsong.
