Anne Hillerman is an American author known for her mystery novels set in the Navajo Nation. Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Hillerman is the daughter of renowned mystery writer Tony Hillerman. She earned a degree in journalism from the University of New Mexico and worked as a newspaper reporter before turning to writing fiction. Hillerman's debut novel, "Spider Woman's Daughter," was published in 2006 and introduced the character of Leaphorn Chee, a young Navajo police officer. The novel received critical acclaim and was followed by several sequels featuring Chee. Hillerman's other notable works include "Rock with Wings" (2008), "Song of the Lion" (2010), and "Ernie and Kafka Go to Purgatory" (2021). Hillerman's writing has been praised for its authenticity, vivid portrayal of Navajo culture, and gripping mysteries. She has received numerous awards, including the Spur Award for Best Novel and the New Mexico-Arizona Book Award. Her novels have been translated into multiple languages and have gained a wide readership.
