Ann Rule (1931-2015) was an American true crime author and former police officer. Born in Michigan, Rule began her career as a police officer in the Seattle Police Department. She later became a writer, publishing her first true crime book, "The Stranger Beside Me," in 1980. The book, which detailed her friendship with serial killer Ted Bundy, became a bestseller and launched Rule's successful writing career.
