William G. Tapply

William G Tapply (1940-2009) was an American author known for his mystery and crime novels. Born in Boston, Tapply served as a police officer and detective before turning to writing. His most famous character is Brady Coyne, a former Boston cop and private investigator living on an island in Maine. The Brady Coyne series, which began with "The Woods" in 1982, spanned 30 novels. Tapply also wrote several stand-alone thrillers and mysteries. Tapply won the New England Book Award for Fiction three times (1986, 1990, and 1996). His novels have been praised for their strong characters, intricate plots, and vivid depictions of New England landscapes. Despite his critical success, Tapply remained a relatively unknown author outside of mystery circles.
