Tara Westover

Tara Westover is an American author and historian who was born into a fundamentalist Mormon family. She gained recognition with her 2018 memoir, "Educated," which recounts her struggles for education and freedom. Raised in an isolated community in Idaho, Westover did not see the inside of a classroom until the age of 17. Despite her family's opposition, she went on to earn a PhD in history from Cambridge University. "Educated" became an instant bestseller, spending over a year on The New York Times Bestseller list, and winning the 2018 National Book Critics Circle Award for Autobiography. Her work has been widely praised for its raw honesty and insights into the complex dynamics of family and societal pressures.
