**Tahereh Mafi** (born May 9, 1988) is an Iranian-American author. Born in Connecticut, Mafi moved to California as a child and struggled with severe depression and anxiety. Writing became an outlet for her emotions. She published her debut novel, "Shatter Me," in 2011, which became a New York Times bestseller and launched a popular dystopian series. Mafi's works explore themes of trauma, mental health, and the search for identity.
