Steve Alten is an American adventure and thriller author best known for his "Meg" series of novels. Born in 1959, Alten developed a passion for marine life and became a certified diver. He penned his first novel, "Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror," in 1997, introducing the concept of a giant prehistoric shark. The book became a bestseller and spawned a franchise with four sequels and a film adaptation.
