Stephen Harding

Stephen Harding (born 1932) is an English author and editor. He is known for his meticulously researched historical thrillers, often set in the Mediterranean during the Roman era. Born in Hampshire, England, Harding studied classics at the University of Cambridge. After graduating, he worked as a teacher and journalist before becoming a full-time writer in the 1960s. Harding's debut novel, "The Long Ships," was published in 1965 and gained international acclaim. It follows the adventures of a Viking raid on the East Anglian coast of England. Harding's subsequent novels, such as "The Dogs of War" and "The Gates of Rome," have earned him a reputation for vivid historical detail and gripping storytelling. Harding has received several awards for his work, including the Crime Writers' Association Gold Dagger Award in 1989 for "The Gates of Rome." His novels have also been translated into multiple languages and adapted for television and film.
