Robert Barnard

Robert Barnard (1936-2013) was an acclaimed British crime novelist and academic. Born in Essex, England, he studied English at the University of Leicester and taught literature before pursuing writing full-time. Barnard published over 100 novels, many featuring his recurring character Detective Constable Charlie Resnick of the Metropolitan Police. His intricate plots and witty style earned him comparisons to Agatha Christie. Notable works include the CWA Gold Dagger Award-winning "Death of a Mystery Writer" (1987) and "Death in a Strange Country" (1986). Barnard's novels have been praised for their clever storytelling, humor, and social commentary. He received numerous awards throughout his career, including the CWA Silver Dagger Award and the Macavity Award. Barnard's critical success established him as one of the leading figures in the British crime fiction genre.
