Richard K. Morgan

Richard K. Morgan (born 1965) is a British science fiction and fantasy author. Born in London to a Welsh father and a Scottish mother, he spent his childhood in Scotland, attending Merchiston Castle School. Morgan served as an officer in the British Army for 10 years, including a posting in Northern Ireland during The Troubles. He subsequently studied drama at the University of Glasgow. Morgan's writing is known for its gritty realism, violence, and exploration of dark themes. His debut novel, "Altered Carbon" (2002), launched a bestselling cyberpunk series. He has also written the military science fiction trilogy "Takeshi Kovacs" and the fantasy series "Land Fit for Heroes." Morgan's work has won numerous awards, including the Philip K. Dick Award for "Altered Carbon" and the John W. Campbell Memorial Award for Best Science Fiction Novel for "Market Forces" (2005). His novels have been praised for their intelligent and thought-provoking storytelling.
