Peter Heller is an American author, journalist, and photographer known for his acclaimed outdoor adventure novels. Born in 1979, he spent his childhood in northern New Hampshire, where his love for nature and exploration fostered. After graduating from Middlebury College, Heller worked as a journalist for Outside Magazine, covering wilderness adventures and environmental issues. His experiences as a guide, expeditioner, and commercial lobsterman inform his writing. Heller's debut novel, "The Dog Stars" (2012), won the National Book Award for Fiction and the PEN/Robert W. Bingham Prize for Debut Fiction. He has since published "The River" (2019) and "The Guide" (2022), both of which received critical acclaim.
