Nancy Atherton

Nancy Atherton (1931–2019) was an American novelist and short story writer. Her novels often explored themes of family, love, and loss, with a particular focus on the lives of women. Atherton's debut novel, "The Rocky Coast" (1962), received critical acclaim. Over the course of her career, she published 14 novels, including "Aunt Mary" (1965), "The Wounded Land" (1975), and "American Wives" (1986). Atherton received numerous awards for her work, including the Maria Moors Cabot Prize in 1965 and a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1966. She was also nominated for the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize. Atherton's writing is known for its lyrical prose and psychological depth. She was praised for her ability to create complex and memorable characters, and her work continues to be read and enjoyed by many.
