Lois McMaster Bujold

Lois McMaster Bujold (born November 2, 1949) is an American-Canadian science fiction and fantasy author. She is best known for her Vorkosigan Saga, a series of space opera novels set in a future galactic society where genetic engineering is commonplace. Bujold has won numerous awards for her work, including five Hugo Awards, three Nebula Awards, and a World Fantasy Award. Her novels have been praised for their complex characters, intricate plotting, and imaginative world-building. In addition to the Vorkosigan Saga, Bujold has written several standalone novels and short stories. Her work has been translated into more than 20 languages. Bujold was born in Columbus, Ohio, and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She attended the University of Minnesota, where she studied sociology and history. She began writing in the early 1980s, and her first novel, Shards of Honor, was published in 1986. Bujold currently lives in Minneapolis with her husband, Keith Laumer, who is also a science fiction writer.
