Katherine Arden

Katherine Arden (born 1987) is an American fantasy writer known for her historical novels. Born in Austin, Texas, she grew up in Vermont and New York. She holds a doctorate in medieval studies from Oxford University, where her research focused on fairy tales and folklore. Arden's best-known work is "The Winternight Trilogy," which includes the novels "The Bear and the Nightingale" (2017), "The Girl in the Tower" (2017), and "The Winter of the Witch" (2019). The trilogy draws inspiration from Russian folklore and Slavic mythology. "The Bear and the Nightingale" won the Locus Award for Best Fantasy Novel and was nominated for the Hugo and Nebula Awards. Arden's other works include the standalone novels "Small Spaces" (2018) and "The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue" (2020). "The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue" was a New York Times bestseller and was nominated for the World Fantasy Award. Arden's writing has been praised for its atmospheric world-building, vivid characters, and exploration of folklore and mythology.
