Hilary Mantel

Hilary Mantel (1952-2022) was an acclaimed British author known for her historical fiction. Born in Derbyshire, England, Mantel worked as a social worker before turning to writing. Her breakthrough came with her 2009 novel "Wolf Hall," the first book in a trilogy about Thomas Cromwell, a key figure in Henry VIII's court. The trilogy was completed with "Bring Up the Bodies" (2012) and "The Mirror and the Light" (2020). Mantel's writing is characterized by its meticulous research, vivid prose, and incisive psychological insights. Her work has garnered numerous awards, including two Booker Prizes for "Wolf Hall" and "Bring Up the Bodies," making her the only woman to win the prestigious prize twice.
