Graham Hurley is a Manx author born in 1962. His debut novel, "Ballyknockan", was published in 2009 and won the Society of Authors' McKitterick Prize. He is a three-time winner of the Manx Litfest Short Story Prize and his short work has appeared in several anthologies. Hurley's second novel, "The Railings", explores mental illness and the historical links between madness and creativity. Published in 2015, it won both the Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse Prize and the E. M. Forster Award for his "great wit" and "subtle and gentle" work. Hurley's writing is praised for its wit, literary style, and thoughtful exploration of human nature. His awards and critical success have established him as a significant voice in contemporary Manx literature.
