George Saunders

George Saunders, born December 2, 1958, is an American short story writer, novelist, and essayist. He studied geophysics at the University of Houston and worked various jobs before pursuing his writing career. Saunders is known for his surreal and thought-provoking short story collections, including "CivilWarLand in Bad Decline" (1996) and "Tenth of December" (2013). His novels include "Lincoln in the Bardo" (2017) and "Liberation Day" (2022). His works have garnered critical acclaim for their inventive language, dark humor, and exploration of social and political themes. Saunders has received numerous awards, including the Booker Prize (2017), the Pen/Malamud Award (2013), and a MacArthur Fellowship (2006). He has also been a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award.
