Elswyth Thane

Elswyth Thane (born Annie Marble Baker) was an American historical novelist. Born in 1900 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, she studied at Smith College and the University of Chicago. Thane published over 20 novels, including her well-known Williamsburg series, which chronicled the lives of early American settlers. Notable works include "His Elizabeth" (1940), "Dawn's Early Light" (1943), and "Ever After" (1945). Her novels received critical acclaim for their historical accuracy and engaging storytelling. In 1943, she was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for "Dawn's Early Light." Thane died in 1973, leaving a lasting legacy as a chronicler of American history through the lens of fictional characters.
