Ellen Hopkins is an American author best known for her young adult novels written in verse. Born in 1955, she grew up in Reno, Nevada. Despite struggling with dyslexia, Hopkins developed a passion for writing. Her debut novel, "Crank" (2004), gained critical acclaim and became a New York Times bestseller. The novel explores the devastating impact of crystal meth addiction on a young girl.
