Earlene Fowler (1936-2022) was an American author known for her culinary mysteries, featuring Detective Benni Harper. Born in Wichita, Kansas, Fowler wrote over 20 novels, primarily set in her hometown. Her debut novel, "Champagne for Breakfast" (1995), introduced Harper, a food critic and amateur sleuth. She went on to write a series of 15 mysteries featuring the character, including "Blue Plate Special" (1996) and "Steamed to Death" (2006). Fowler's books received critical acclaim for their humor, intricate plots, and authentic culinary details. She won the Agatha Award for Best First Novel in 1996 and was the first author to win the award two years in a row for "Lethal Lemon Tart" (1997). Her writing earned praise for its wit, cleverness, and ability to entertain readers while showcasing her passion for food and cooking.
