**D.S. Butler** (1922-2011) was an American author known for her historical novels and nonfiction works. Born in New York City, Butler studied history at Columbia University. She began writing as a young woman, publishing her first novel, "Drums Along the Mohawk," in 1940. The book became a bestseller, selling over a million copies. Butler wrote over 30 novels and nonfiction books, including "The Frontiersmen," "American Heritage: First Ladies," and "The Founding of the American Republic." Her works often focused on American history, particularly the Revolutionary War and westward expansion. Butler's novels received critical acclaim for their vivid historical detail and engaging storytelling. She won the Pulitzer Prize for History in 1973 for her nonfiction book "The Virginia Dynasty." Her work continues to be widely read and enjoyed by lovers of historical fiction.
