Chelsea Cain

Chelsea Cain (born 1972) is an American crime fiction author. Her debut novel, "Heartsick", won the 2007 Edgar Award for Best First Novel. She is best known for her Gretchen Lowell series, which features a Portland homicide detective with a troubled past. Cain was born in Iowa and grew up in the Midwest. She earned a degree in biology from the University of Iowa and worked as a science writer before turning to fiction. Her novels have been praised for their suspenseful plots, complex characters, and exploration of dark themes. In addition to the Edgar Award, she has received the Barry Award for Best Thriller and the Macavity Award for Best Mystery Novel.
