C. J. Sansom (born 1952) is a British author known for his historical crime novels set during the reign of King Henry VIII. Sansom holds a law degree from the University of Birmingham and worked for many years as a solicitor. In 2003, he turned to writing and published his debut novel, "Dissolution," the first in a series featuring lawyer and investigator Matthew Shardlake. The series has been widely praised for its rich historical detail and complex characters. Sansom has received numerous awards for his work, including the CWA Historical Dagger and the Crime Writers' Association Cartier Diamond Dagger. His novels have been translated into over 20 languages and have sold millions of copies worldwide.
